About the Role

The primary purpose of the Advisor is to support positive outcomes in the health system by ensuring Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and its Ministers meet their machinery of government obligations. 

This role will provide timely, high-quality responses and advice. The Advisor will focus on responding to OIA requests to ensure individual professional development by building expertise and knowledge and providing cover and additional support during periods of high volumes.

About the Team

The Government Services group manages high volumes of products – around 3,000 OIAs, 5,500 WPQs, 2,000 ministerials and 1,500 briefings per year.  This is a fast-paced environment with expectations of meeting deadlines and providing Ministers and the public with quality products.

The advisor will support positive outcomes in the health system by ensuring Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and its Ministers meet their machinery of government obligations.  

About you

You are a skilled advisor with a solid understanding of the machinery of government, including experience in preparing and responding to Official Information Act (OIA) requests, and supporting work with Ministers and their offices. You bring strong analytical and communication skills, enabling you to distil complex information into clear, actionable advice for a range of stakeholders.

Known for your attention to detail and sound judgement, you approach issues thoughtfully, manage risks carefully, and remain calm under pressure. You're comfortable navigating complex and fast-paced environments, demonstrating initiative, adaptability, and strong prioritisation skills to meet competing deadlines.

A collaborative team player, you also work confidently on your own, and are committed to contributing to a high-performing, supportive team culture. You value building strong relationships, act with professionalism and discretion, and take pride in delivering high-quality, accurate work.
