Operational Team Leader - Blenheim

At the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) | Te Pā Whakamarumaru, we are dedicated to our mission of keeping Aotearoa New Zealand and our people safe and secure. We collect, analyse and assess intelligence to protect New Zealand from threats such as foreign interference, espionage and terrorism.

The role

As an Operational Team Leader, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of protective security services and advice to the NZIC. You will lead a team of Protective Security Officers, ensuring a culture of customer-centric high performance.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership, coordination and delivery of site security services.
  • Working with stakeholders to ensure that our people, information and assets are protected.
  • Ensuring our Protective Security Officers are prepared and supported to respond to security incidents and/or emergency situations that may arise.

The appointing range for this role is $87,048 - $92,851 depending on experience.

Who we're looking for

Ideally you have:

  • Minimum of three years' experience in leading a team and establishing a high-performing team culture.
  • Demonstrated risk management experience.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to build rapport and credibility quickly across a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Experience working in security or related industries would be beneficial.

Before you apply

Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.

You must:

  • Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years

OR

Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years

  • Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
    • Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
