Contract: 1 Year Fixed Term Parental Leave Cover, Part Time 0.4 FTE

About the Role

Salary: $90,000 - $112,000 Pro-Rata 

As an Optometrist, you - ll be rendering specialised Glaucoma services in Wellington Eye Department, Kenepuru and Hutt Valley in support of the Regional Glaucoma Service.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Allied Health Team of 4 Optometrists and 3 Orthoptists support the Ophthalmology Service in various specialised areas. This role has a focus on Glaucoma Clinic Support. The Ophthalmology Service provides a secondary and tertiary ophthalmic service for the Wellington region, including Kapiti, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa.  Tertiary services are also provided for the lower North Island and upper South Island.  The main outpatient department and inpatient beds are based at Wellington Regional Hospital with some services provided at Kenepuru Hospital.

Outpatient clinics provide comprehensive ophthalmic assessment on a referral basis from medical practitioners, public health vision screening technicians and optometrists.  A 24-hour acute service is provided at Wellington Regional Hospital.  Most ocular surgery is now carried out on a day case basis. 

The service collaborates with other hospital services including Neurosurgery, Neurology, Intensive Care Unit, Oncology and Hutt Hospital - s Plastic Surgical Department.

The Clinical Leader, Ophthalmology, provides collegial leadership in achieving specific annual targets and outcomes and in identifying and implementing service development initiatives.

The Operations Manager, Surgical Services works in partnership with the Clinical Leader and is responsible for the service leadership and management including budgeting, resourcing and oversight of contract achievement as well as providing advice to the team and supporting and developing Team Leaders.

About you

  • Optometrist Registered with NZ Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board and current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Special interest and work experience in Glaucoma Field
  • Post-Graduate Qualification would be beneficial
  • Past experience working in public sector is ideal
