  • Fixed term, part time role (0.8FTE) until June 2026, working 32 hours per week between Mondays and Fridays
  • Provide an effective and efficient service to children in Northland. This includes children with disabilities and developmental problems within Speech Language Therapy service criteria

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Paediatric Speech Language Therapist to join the Child Development Service based out of Whangārei Hospital.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Provision of evidence based speech language therapy services appropriate to your level of skill/experience
  • Implementing assessment and treatment which meets NZ Speech Language Therapists National Standards of Practice
  • Ensuring all clients and whānau are treated in a culturally appropriate manner

This role is for a fixed term, part time (0.8 FTE) position ending in June 2026. You will be based in Whangarei, working Monday – Friday. The position would suit an SLT who can be flexible, versatile and open to change and can work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

About the Team/Service/Location

We are a dedicated team working to provide clinically excellent, whānau centered care for children with communication and feeding difficulties across Te Tai Tokerau. Our team provides a service to inpatient paediatric wards including the Neonatal Unit, in addition to outpatient services across the region including video fluoroscopy clinic. We work within a friendly multi-disciplinary team, and offer a supportive team environment with excellent links between medical and Allied Health services.

About you

We would love to hear from you if you have the following skills:

  • A passion for working with tamariki and their whānau
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
  • Degree in Speech Language Therapy or equivalent
  • Current Registration with NZSTA (or eligibility for this)
  • Previous experience working in the field of Speech Language Therapy
  • Excellent English language communication skills (both oral and written)

 Whilst not essential; the following education and/or skills are desirable for this position:

  • Experience working in paediatric dysphagia
  • Videofluoroscopy experience
