About the Role

Are you a payroll professional looking for a challenge in a new and dynamic environment?

This is an exciting opportunity to join Health New Zealand - Te Matau a Māui as a Payroll Specialist. As a vital part of the Payroll & People and Communications team, you will work closely with HR and stakeholders to deliver a professional, accurate and efficient payroll service. Join our team and play a crucial role in the health system at a local level.

We have a vacancy for someone who is passionate and keen to work in a complex environment, who can appreciate that payroll is not just pushing buttons, using AMS Leader payroll systems

 

About the Team/Service/ Location

As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating and maintaining pay related data, bringing issues to resolution prior to each pay close, providing a complete payroll service to assigned professional areas.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain highly effective relationships to ensure business needs are understood
  • Maintain up to date and accurate records of payroll transactions ensuring a robust audit and approval trail
  • Identify and initiate process improvements creating efficiencies in workflow
  • Collaborate with the team and other departments to address payroll inquiries and resolve payroll related issues
  • Record payroll entries in compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • Provide guidance, training and assistance for less experienced team members

 

About you

With relevant previous experience dealing with complex systems and processes you will be able to demonstrate a high degree of accuracy in your work, excellent processing skills and an eye for process improvement. You communicate effectively and are most comfortable in hardworking, collaborative teams. You take the initiative to do the things that need doing, while managing multiple priorities.

Our ideal candidate for this role will:

  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and high-quality performance
  • Thrive under time pressures
  • Have the ability to analyse data and problem solve
  • Work well independently yet also be an active contributor within the wider team
  • Be computer literate with excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite

Experience in a high-volume payroll position with an understanding of relevant employment legislation and both individual and collective agreements would also be advantageous.
