About the Role 

Salary: $111,240 - $117,420

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced pharmacist to join our team as an Antimicrobial Pharmacist. 

This is a brand new position and will form part of the clinical pharmacy services across the Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley District. They will also be a key member of the Infectious Diseases Service. This position is vital in promoting the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) programme, focussing on Hutt Hospital, and will be a member of the AMS Committee. The Committee aims to enhance the quality use of antimicrobials throughout the District.

The Antimicrobial Pharmacist acts as a role model to other pharmacists and provides support, advice and education to the pharmacy department, as well as other healthcare professionals. This role provides regular reporting on antimicrobial usage within the hospital and supports the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) to ensure that patients are discharged from hospital safely with appropriate antimicrobial therapy. There are lots of opportunities to develop projects and work autonomously, whilst having support from specialist clinicians.

This role will work closely with the existing Antimicrobial Pharmacist at Capital & Coast Hospitals, and collaborate on projects, reporting and other work.

About the Team/Service/Location 

The pharmacy team is well respected by clinicians, nursing staff, and senior management across the organisation, and is constantly looking at ways to improve the service and care it delivers.  We provide a comprehensive pharmacy service throughout to the Capital Coast and Hutt Valley District, which includes a clinical service, dispensary & logistics service, and a quality & risk service. There is also an aseptic production service at Capital & Coast Hospitals (Wellington & Kenepuru). Through these services, we aim to improve the quality and effectiveness of prescribing, supply and distribution of medicines throughout the Capital Coast and Hutt Valley District.  Our teams value professional growth, and emphasizes clinical development and medicines optimization for our patients.

About you 

We want to hear from you if you are an experienced hospital pharmacist wanting to take the next step in your hospital career. Although previous experience in Antimicrobials or Infectious Diseases is desirable, both the Pharmacy team and the Infectious Diseases Service will provide training and support for the right candidate. You will be self-motivated with a broad clinical experience, be able to work autonomously and innovatively, as well as having the ability to form good working relationships with the multidisciplinary team. You will need to be registered as a pharmacist in NZ with a valid APC, or eligible to register.
