Full-time, Based in Wellington

 

Are you passionate about the history of New Zealand and its heritage places? Do you have a strong interest in te ao Māori and New Zealand's cultural landscapes? Do you have excellent critical thinking and organisational skills? Are you interested in developing public policy?

 

Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga is New Zealand's leading bicultural heritage agency. An autonomous Crown entity, we have key statutory roles in conserving New Zealand's cultural heritage and in advocating for its protection.

 

We are seeking a policy advisor who will develop heritage policy, coordinate policy processes, and advocate for heritage protection. Key aspects of the role includes:

 

  • developing policy advice on heritage matters
  • drafting submissions to public bodies advocating for heritage protection
  • administering consent processes
  • coordinating work on technical guidelines and conservation plans
  • representing Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga in interagency policy processes.

 

The successful applicant will have a tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as public policy, Māori studies, planning, history, art history, archaeology or heritage studies. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential.
