Policy Analysts – Mental Health and Addiction
- An exciting opportunity for two policy analysts to join us in shaping how we support the mental wellbeing of all people in Aotearoa New Zealand.
- Craft advice to Ministers and decision-makers on ways to transform our approach to mental health and wellbeing, substance use, and addiction.

Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do
As a policy analyst you will tackle challenging problems to provide advice and support to the work of the Mental Health and Addiction Strategy and Policy Group within Manatū Hauora. Your work informs Ministers, Government, senior officials, and other stakeholders with accurate and clear communication. The kind of work you are involved with could include repealing and replacing the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992, working to reduce drug-related harm, or improving mental wellbeing of our tamariki and rangatahi, among many other things.
Mental health and addiction are key issues for people and whānau across the country and our mahi has impact on everyone, including those who experience inequities, and whānau keeping themselves mentally well.
Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring
- Tertiary qualification in a health or relevant field and/or equivalent experience
- Experience of strategy and policy work; government structures and relevant legislation is beneficial
- Analytical skills including consideration of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities
- Good communication, writing and relationship management skills
- Lived experience in mental health and/or addiction will be considered favourably.
