About the Role

We have the opportunity available to join our Business Services team as a Principal Advisor, Planning in a fixed-term, full-time role.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide senior leadership and expertise across the national planning and performance functions for the National Public Health Service. This includes supporting the Team Lead Planning and Performance to deliver planning and performance products aligned to NPHS's strategic goals, within a dynamic and complex planning and performance environment.

Deliverables include implementation of a collaborative and robust annual business planning process that is aligned to broader organisational and Government priorities, the development of a NPHS performance management framework, development of other ad hoc planning products and providing high quality planning and performance advice to senior leaders. The role will provide deputy cover for the Team Lead Planning and Performance from time to time. 

The duration of this fixed-term is 12 months.

About you

You come with excellent writing and communication skills which will be used to prepare decision papers for senior leaders and high-quality planning and performance reporting products. You come with extensive experience in public accountability and performance reporting including performance management framework development.

You will have:

  • A relevant graduate or post-graduate qualification
  • Health experience is desirable
  • Extensive experience in an advisory role to senior leaders
  • Experience of leading complex planning processes / working as a planner
  • Proven experience in statutory accountability and Treasury Budget processes is preferred
  • Ability to analyse technical content to write high quality papers
  • Extensive experience supporting senior leaders and governance groups
  • Strong written and oral communication, ability to write good papers for decision-makers
  • Experience in developing and managing reporting processes
  • Experience in managing projects and programmes, developing business processes, frameworks and templates
  • Strong analytical skills combined with an ability to quickly assimilate new information, and to write and talk about complex issues clearly and concisely with a range of audiences
  • An ability to build constructive and effective relationships with stakeholders to build a sound understanding of their operational environment and context
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to think ahead, use initiative, establish priorities and meet deadlines whilst preserving high levels of accuracy and confidentiality
