Te Haeata | The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategically minded Principal Advisor to join our Property Strategy & Planning team.

This is an opportunity to influence the long-term investment, optimisation, and stewardship of a large and diverse government property portfolio that supports justice services across Aotearoa New Zealand.

In addition to engaging in the property strategy and long-term planning, this role will require someone with excellent writing and strategic thinking.  You will also be responsible for producing high-impact Cabinet papers, ministerial briefings, media releases, better business cases and responses to Official Information Act (OIA) requests.

You'll work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders across government, helping to translate complex infrastructure and investment challenges into clear, compelling narratives that drive action.  Your role will also require you to work across agencies to provide advice and co-ordinate Justice Sector responses.

 

Ō pūkenga | Skills and Experience

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

  • Strategic thinking and the ability to distil complex issues into clear, actionable advice.
  • Excellent writing skills, with a proven ability to craft Cabinet papers, ministerial briefings, better business cases, media releases, and OIA responses.
  • Strong understanding of the machinery of government, including public sector investment frameworks and Better Business Cases.
  • Experience working with or alongside Māori organisations, and a sound understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
  • Financial literacy and the ability to interpret investment data and performance trends.
  • Experience in working with ministerial services.
  • The ability to lead, influence and build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.

Some experience in property or infrastructure planning is preferred.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

The appointing salary for this role will be between $129,129 and $179,192 based on skills and experience.
