Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

About us

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko is an independent Crown entity that regulates the electricity market. We are a kaitiaki of electricity, and our purpose is to enhance New Zealanders' lives, prosperity, and environment through electricity.

The electricity industry is at a pivotal moment, with the journey towards renewable energy sources and innovation reshaping how we operate. To meet these challenges and opportunities, we're evolving as an organisation - growing our capabilities, expanding our reach, and building a team ready to create a brighter, more sustainable future for Aotearoa. Our focus is on making a difference through bold thinking, collaboration, and delivering value for the communities we serve.

About the role

We are seeking a seasoned Principal Advisor - Risk and Assurance to act as a subject matter expert responsible for the Authority's end-to-end risk and assurance management framework. You'll lead the development and implementation of the framework, providing expert support to teams across the Authority, the SLT and the Board. You will facilitate risk assessments and reporting, lead the delivery of the internal audit programme, maintain business continuity management and act as the Secretariat to the Board's Audit and Finance Committee.

Our ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in risk and assurance, with the confidence to provide strategic, authoritative advice to senior leaders and challenge existing processes to drive continuous improvement. They will be able to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels, including executives and technical teams. Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to convey complex risk concepts clearly to diverse audiences. A proactive and pragmatic mindset, combined with strong analytical abilities, will enable them to navigate ambiguity and deliver effective, actionable solutions.

Why work with us?

Electricity plays a critical role in the quality of our lives and businesses. We are a small but high-impact organisation where talented individuals can make a real difference. We foster an open, collaborative environment that encourages quality, innovation, ongoing learning, and knowledge sharing.

We support a healthy work-life balance and offer a range of benefits to support our teams, including the following:

  • Competitive remuneration from $152,000 based on your skills and experience, plus a 3% net KiwiSaver contribution
  • Flexible working options
  • Health, wellbeing, and social initiatives, including allowances, Habit Health+ EAP services for you and your whānau, and regular team events
