Job Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Principal Advisor, Operations Support, Courts & Tribunals

We are recruiting for two permanent Principal Advisor positions into our Courts and Tribunals Operations Support team.

Te Haeata/The Opportunity

These roles present a great opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic, and proactive operator who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. Your work will be an exciting mix of project work and responsive advisory support meaning you'll often need to work across the organisation and with other teams at pace. We have some big initiatives underway that will change how we deliver Court and Tribunal services to the public. It's an exciting time to join us.

One of the roles will have a particular focus on the Criminal, Youth, and Solution-Focused Courts and another will focus on the Family jurisdiction and the Tribunals we support. These are critical roles for providing support to our front-line staff, advising on the operational impacts of law changes or significant change projects, and providing high quality advice to senior leaders and Ministers.

We want people who have strong critical thinking skills, can communicate effectively with stakeholders across all levels, and can work collaboratively. These roles also form part of the broader leadership group of the Operations Support team so we want people who can coach and develop more junior staff to build their capability and experience.

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience

The skills and experience we are looking for include:

  • strong advisory skills, including being able to analyse problems, identify risks, and assess options
  • exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • experience building trusted relationships with a wide range of audiences
  • comfort working in a fast-paced environment where you are required to influence and respond to changing needs and priorities
  • able to see things from many different points of view and to make connections to various streams of work
  • able to support the development of others through informal coaching and feedback, and
  • knowledge of the machinery of Government and a good understanding of the justice sector. Direct experience working in the Court or Tribunal environment is an advantage.
