About the Role
The Principal Security Architect operates at leadership level, responsible for shaping and overseeing enterprise-wide security architecture to protect New Zealand's national health system. Operating across both strategic and operational spheres, this role provides expert guidance to ensure alignment with Health New Zealand's security objectives, regulatory obligations, and architectural best practice. With expertise in cyber security and frameworks such as TOGAF and SABSA, the Principal Security Architect leads risk mitigation, embeds Secure by Design principles, and drives innovation in security solutions. The role partners with architects, senior leaders, and vendors to secure ongoing investment and build long-term security resilience.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Principal Security Architect is part of the Cyber Security team, reporting to the General Manager Security Services and Performance within Health New Zealand's wider Digital Services function.The Cyber Security function within Health NZ is a national capability that ensures the protection of critical health systems, data, and services. Cyber security have established a robust security function that operates at scale across all of Health New Zealand, providing essential protection against cyber threats. A stable, consistent approach to cybersecurity is essential to safeguarding patient safety, maintaining public trust, and ensuring the continuity of vital healthcare operations.
About you
As a seasoned security professional with a strong foundation in enterprise architecture and risk management. You have the ability to lead with influence, communicate effectively across technical and executive audiences, and foster a culture of Secure by Design through collaboration and mentorship. You will also bring the following skills and experience to support your success in the role:
- Minimum 10 years' work experience in enterprise grade cybersecurity and information technology senior role (leadership preferred).
- Security architect practitioner certification, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated history of developing and maintaining successfully adopted technology-base strategies, roadmaps, and outcome base solutions/services.
- Demonstrated knowledge in security frameworks and standards such as PSR, NZISM, ISO 27001, NIST.
