The Department of Radiation Therapy, University of Otago Wellington, teaches Radiation Therapy at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Bachelor of Radiation Therapy qualification is the key entry qualification for the radiation therapy profession in New Zealand.

We are committed to working closely with iwi and Māori organisations, and mātauranga Māori has become an integral part of teaching and research across the institution.

The role/Te mahi

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Professional Practice Fellow/Senior Professional Practice Fellow (Pūkenga/Pūkenga Matua/Kairuruku Ritenga Utua/Tauira Mātāmua Ritenga Ngaio) with current experience in clinical radiation therapy.

We are open to making this appointment at any level from Professional Practice Fellow/Senior Professional Practice Fellow (teaching only) to Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (teaching, research and programme development). Appointment to these positions will depend on academic achievement, skills and experience.

The role includes teaching into the Bachelor of Radiation Therapy across current approaches to treatment and planning, with emphasis likely on the second and third years of the degree.

This role includes preparation, modification and delivery of teaching material. While research is not a requirement, collaboration with other members of the department would be supported.

Key tasks of the role include:

  • preparing and modifying teaching material and teaching small group tutorials and lectures to support delivery of the radiation therapy curriculum
  • providing leadership to refine the radiation therapy curriculum
  • contributing to the preparation and marking of assessment for the Bachelor of Radiation Therapy.

We are looking for candidates with the following attributes:

  • A Radiation Therapy qualification and clinical experience in Radiation Therapy
  • A current Radiation Therapy practising certificate
  • Experience in teaching or supervising radiation therapy students in clinical placement
  • A commitment to developing an active research profile (Lecturer and Senior Lecturer positions only)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Understanding and commitment to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi and the University's Māori Strategic Framework

This is a permanent, part-time position ranging from 0.2 FTE to 0.8 FTE. Hours of work are negotiable with the successful candidate to provide flexibility. For overseas candidates, a minimum of 0.8 FTE is essential for immigration purposes.

The appointment levels for this position are as follows:

  • Professional Practice Fellow - $88,516 to $99,420
  • Senior Professional Practice Fellow - $102,092 to $132,796
  • Lecturer - $94,084 to $111,056
  • Senior Lecturer - $116,419 to $143,018
