Job Description

Intermediate Project Manager
Location: Wellington (with some travel required)

About the Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Intermediate Project Manager with consultancy experience to join New Zealand’s leading commercial design, build, and consultancy firm. You’ll be supporting the delivery of major government property and infrastructure projects, working across multiple agencies and stakeholders to manage projects from planning through to delivery, ensuring they meet scope, time, budget, quality, and risk expectations.
You will apply best-practice project management methodologies, develop business cases, monitor project performance, and maintain strong relationships with a range of internal and external partners. This role offers an excellent opportunity to grow your leadership skills while working on transformational initiatives that shape the future of government property services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end delivery of projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with government clients, suppliers, and industry partners.
  • Prepare project documentation, business cases, feasibility studies, and risk assessments.
  • Monitor financial performance, timelines, and project outcomes.
  • Provide clear, high-quality reporting on project status and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate closely with planning and advisory teams to align property initiatives with regional and national strategies.
  • Apply strong problem-solving skills to navigate complex, politically sensitive environments.
Skills and Experience:
  • 3+ years’ experience in project management, ideally in construction, infrastructure, or property sectors.
  • Proven experience working in a consultancy environment, providing advice and project delivery services to clients.
  • Sound understanding of property environments and the machinery of government (an advantage but not essential).
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with NZS construction contracts (such as NZS 3910)
  • Strong communication skills, able to engage and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing business cases and feasibility studies, preferably using the Better Business Case (BBC) framework.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Financial management and reporting skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, MS Project, and ideally Procore.
  • Tertiary qualification in project management, property, construction, engineering, or related fields preferred.
  • PRINCE2 or equivalent project management certification desirable.
Why Join Us?
  • Be part of transformational projects that impact New Zealand communities.
  • Build your career with New Zealand’s leading commercial design, build, and consultancy experts.
  • Work alongside experienced senior leaders who value growth, innovation, and delivery excellence.
  • Enjoy a collaborative, supportive, and forward-thinking work environment.
