  • Based at Christchurch Health Campus
  • Hours of work are between 0800 -1630, Monday - Friday

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Psychologist to join our Specialist Haematology Service at Christchurch Hospital. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to provide psychological care and support to patients living with blood cancers and other haematological conditions, while contributing to staff wellbeing, clinical education, and service development.

As a Specialist Haematology Psychologist, you will:

  • Provide psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions for individuals receiving care within the Haematology service
  • Work closely with people at various stages of treatment, including newly diagnosed patients, those undergoing acute treatment, relapse, and at end-of-life care
  • Address psychological concerns such as anxiety, depression, adjustment, panic, acute distress, and pre-existing mental health needs
  • Deliver psychological input in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), contributing to case discussions, joint care planning, and integrated psychological care
  • Provide support to the stem cell transplant service
  • Offer education, consultation, and psychological insight to Haematology staff
  • Maintain strong relationships with external agencies such as Leukaemia & Blood Cancer NZ, Cancer Society, and others
  • Participate in supervision, professional development, service reviews, and quality improvement initiatives

About You

You will demonstrate the following skills/qualifications:

  • Registered Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • Member of NZPsS, NZCCP, or equivalent
  • Strong clinical skills in assessment, formulation, and intervention for a range of psychological conditions
  • Experience working in complex, multi-professional healthcare settings
  • Understanding of the psychological impacts of serious health conditions
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally safe practice
  • Experience in providing education, consultative, and supervisory support to colleagues is advantageous
  • 3 years - experience as a psychologist preferable but will consider early career psychologists
