About the Role
We have an opportunity available for a Public Health Medicine Specialist (PHMS) to join our experienced, and supportive Protection Clinical team within the Protection Directorate, NPHS.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide senior public health strategic and clinical advice and guidance to the Health Protection Directorate and leadership team in respect to health protection. You will work closely with partners in the National Public Health Service, Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, Manatū Hauora, and other stakeholders. You will lead and support the programmes of work across Protection to deliver on the Government's priorities and Te Pae Tata.

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. About you
You understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are skilled in applying its principles effectively in your role. You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels, enhancing the quality and contributions of individuals and teams to achieve the organisations vision and goals. You are able to work at a fast pace in a high-pressure environment, adept at contributing to multiple projects at once. Driven and accountable, you are aware of your impact on others and are committed to continuously improving your leadership practice.
- Relevant graduate (and post-graduate) qualifications – Extensive clinical experience and expertise in public health medicine, with appropriate tertiary level professional qualification.
- Hold a registered medical practitioner current Annual Practising Certificate and vocational registration as a specialist medical practitioner in a relevant speciality (FNZCPHM, FAFPHM or equivalent)
- Must meet the requirements for designation as a medical officer of health
- Significant experience in a senior level position
- Extensive specialised experience normally gained through professional qualifications and significant post graduate experience
- Previous public sector and health sector experience
- Demonstrated ability to work in complex organisations and with diverse stakeholders
- Significant experience delivering on programmes of work in a complex environment
- Significant experience developing, implementing, and integrating strategic plans and change
