About the Role

We have an opportunity available to join our team as a Public Health Nurse in a permanent full-time role, based in, Auckland as part of our Northern Region Communicable Diseases team.

This role is a public health nursing role within the Health Protection team in the Northern Region. You will part of the communicable disease nursing team, responsible for case management, contact tracing of notifiable diseases including outbreak response and long term care of patients with communicable diseases.  We work directly with clients and their whānau in the community, to protect from disease, promote and empower wellbeing and strive for equitable health outcomes. 

As a key member of the National Public Health Service (NPHS) the Public Health Nurse works collaboratively within teams and across the community to enable individuals, whānau and communities to achieve optimum health and wellbeing.

Public health nursing is a specialty practice that integrates nursing, social sciences and public health knowledge to promote and protect the health and Hauora of communities. Nursing assessment of population health, attention to the multiple determinants of health, and an emphasis on primary prevention are fundamental to public health nursing practice.

The Public Health Nurse is a registered nurse and will practice in accordance with the Nursing Council of New Zealand Code of Conduct and competencies for a Registered.

About you

You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and model an agile approach, you learn quickly, adapt fast. You can utilise advanced nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to top of scope.

Skills and Experience

  • Current registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand as Registered Nurse and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • An ongoing commitment to professional development
  • A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for underserved whānau and communities
  • Be prepared to work towards, or already, an authorised vaccinator (3 years+) and / or whole of life authorised vaccinator, as required for the role
  • Competence in application of Māori health models to Nursing practice
  • Able to work within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • Proven experience using Patient Management Systems
  • An eye for detail and commitment for continuous quality improvement
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Full New Zealand drivers' licence
  • With the support of Health NZ, you will proactively take care of your own health and safety, to ensure a safe and supportive work environment
