Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to providing equitable, sustainable, and whānau-centred care, underpinned by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Join our mission to deliver exceptional healthcare services to New Zealanders, as part of an integrated and collaborative team.

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Consultant Radiologist to join our forward-thinking team at Dunedin Hospital, where we are on the cusp of a transformational change with the construction of a new, state-of-the-art, fully digital hospital.

This role is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team (MDT) delivering high-quality, patient-centred diagnostic imaging services to a population of approximately 310,000 across the lower South Island. The role has a strong emphasis on emergency and inpatient imaging, with excellent support and collegiality within the department.

What we offer includes the following:

  • Comprehensive imaging services: Our Radiology service includes MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Nuclear Medicine, and Interventional procedures, supported by modern RIS/PACS systems. Mammography is not provided
  • Generalist role with flexibility: We are looking for a Radiologist with a generalist scope, particularly in CT and MRI. Experience in ultrasound and image-guided procedures is valued but not essential. We welcome and support your subspecialty interests
  • Supportive environment: We pride ourselves on a collaborative team culture, where your professional development and work-life balance are supported
  • Teaching and development: You'll have opportunities to teach and mentor Registrars from the Royal Australasian College of Radiologists. We value knowledge-sharing and enjoy growing our staff together
  • Academic opportunities: Dunedin Hospital is affiliated with the University of Otago Medical School, and our Radiologists actively contribute to registrar training through the Royal Australasian College of Radiologists. Teaching and mentoring are a valued part of the role
  • Competitive package: You'll benefit from an attractive salary, shared on-call responsibilities, and the chance to help shape the future of our service

About you

You will be a FRANZCR-qualified Radiologist (or hold an equivalent qualification) eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. A positive, proactive approach and strong communication skills will enable you to work effectively within our supportive MDT. A commitment to continuous quality improvement and a passion for patient care is essential. If you're motivated to contribute to an evolving radiology service and enjoy a varied and rewarding role, this could be your ideal next step.

Requirements include the following:

  • FRANZCR or equivalent qualification
  • Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • Strong general radiology skills including MRI and CT, ultrasound an advantage
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring junior staff
  • Willingness to participate in the shared on-call roster
  • A collaborative and patient-focused approach

  • Natural beauty and lifestyle: Enjoy beaches, surf spots, cycling trails, wildlife reserves, and ski fields all within reach
  • Academic hub: Home to the University of Otago, Dunedin offers academic and research opportunities as well as a lively student culture
