Mō te tūranga | About the role

As our next Ranger, you will be part of a team which takes great pride in managing and maintaining recreational and heritage assets in Whangārei.  Your day-to-day work will be field based but include some office work to support the field work and team. You may also be required to support the biodiversity and community teams with their mahi.

The position will be focussed on:

  • Maintaining our recreational and heritage assets which requires a high level of fitness and a know-how-can-do attitude
  • Working well with the close-knit team but also able to work independently
  • Participating in team safety briefings and taking responsibility for your safety and the safety of your team mates every day.
  • Supporting other teams when needed.

This is a permanent, full time, Monday to Friday role based in Whangarei.

 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

You will be someone with a high level of fitness who loves working outdoors and have an appreciation of heritage assets with an interest in developing in this area.

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Practical, hands-on skills working with scrubbars, chainsaws, carpentry and/or building environments
  • Field work experience, recreational asset maintenance is advantageous
  • Computer literate with the ability to learn new systems, processes, and technology
  • Strong communications skills and the ability to work in true partnership with others across DOC and external stakeholders including local whānau, hapū and iwi
  • Knowledge in risk management, hazard identification, health, safety, and wellbeing
  • A full driver's licence and the ability to drive manual vehicles.

Desirable:

  • LUV experience and qualification
  • Growsafe qualification
  • Current First Aid certificate.

The salary range for this position is $58,816 - $66,578 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
