The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity available to join our regional team as Regional Chief Health Protection Officer. 

This is a senior leadership role in the Regional National Public Health Service (NPHS) and member of the Regional Leadership Group (RLG) and the Regional Clinical and Professional Leadership Team. The primary purpose of the role is to provide leadership and advice with responsibility for supporting the delivery of safe and effective Regional public health services. Provide organisation - wide assurance, leadership, and clinical governance for the clinical teams within the Regional public health service.

As the transition to the new system is currently underway, organisational design and implementation work will be on-going. This role drives the implementation of the health protection operating model for NPHS and the region and leads the wider team through the associated change processes.

You are an experienced leader with proven experience in leading change, and service and quality improvement initiatives. You have demonstrable understanding & experience working in partnership with Pacific communities.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

• Recognised health protection qualification (a Diploma or Masters in Public Health is desired)
• 3+ years' experience in senior health protection officer leadership roles with 10 years demonstrated health protection experience
• Significant experience in a senior level position including solid experience in coaching, mentoring, and managing teams
• Able to apply critical thinking, using sound judgment to develop options and
• Knowledge of the machinery of government, and policy development preferred
• Demonstrated understanding of organisational risk and compliance, legal and regulatory requirements regarding relevant regulations and standards in New Zealand
• Able to monitor and analyse performance to ensure the quality of work, identify areas of improvement, problem solve
• Demonstrated mature communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present in a clear, persuasive, and impactful way, to influence others to embrace change, and to develop, unify and maintain strong internal and external relationships essential for achieving sustainable outcomes
