About the Role

We are looking for Midwives to join our rural maternity ward at Kaitaia Hospital. This role requires your commitment to provide an exceptional Maternity Service to our community. You will be an important member of our team which requires good communication skills, clinical skills and experience across pregnancy, birthing and postnatal care.

This position will be worked on a roster basis of 12hour shifts including days, nights and weekends. 

The Registered Midwife is an autonomous practitioner who:

  • Utilises professional knowledge and skill to provide a holistic approach to midwifery care that is safe and of the highest quality possible.
  • Works in partnership with women to ensure they receive quality maternity care.
  • Will work in partnership with women, LMCs and other members of the health care team to ensure maternity care plans are developed, implemented and reviewed to meet the needs of the woman and her baby
  • Will provide emergency midwifery support as required and facilitate transfers to other maternity services when needed

About the Team/Service/Location

Kaitaia Hospital is Health New Zealand's northernmost hospital. It is a general hospital serving a widely scattered population. The 20 bed hospital has a general ward, maternity and emergency ward with all the supporting services, and provides a substantial community health service.

In our small rural unit, Midwives provide care to inpatients, carry out assessments and respond to acute presentations as needed. Midwives also work alongside colleagues as required to provide midwifery support. This is a role for a midwife with high professional standards and Integrity, who wants to provide a service they are proud of.

About you

We are looking for Midwives who are committed to whanau-centered care that is delivered respectfully.

  • Registration with the New Zealand Midwifery council and a current APC
  • Evidence of recent midwifery practice, or
    • recent midwifery graduates - evidence of enrolment on the Midwifery First Year of Practice Programme
    • evidence of a Return to Practice Programme
    • Communication skills
    • Full NZ driver's licence
    • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team
