About the role

The Children’s Emergency team at Starship is seeking motivated and experienced registered nurses to join the only dedicated ED in the country designed exclusively for the needs of children.

As a CED nurse you will experience our unique and rewarding work environment full of clinical support and professional development opportunities. You will work collectively to treat the 34,000 acute attendances the busy unit receives per year and learn a range of advanced skills along the way. You will join a resuscitation team and develop the ability to triage, whilst working amongst our purpose-built facility with state-of-the-art equipment.

About the Team

The Children’s Emergency Department in Starship specialises in meeting the needs of acutely ill or injured children and young people ranging from birth to 15 years of age. Our team works within a multidisciplinary framework including Hospital Play Specialists, Social Workers, Māori & Pacific Island support workers and clerical staff who work closely with the nursing and medical teams.

Starship Child Health is a dedicated paediatric healthcare service and major teaching centre, providing family centred care to neonates, children and young people throughout New Zealand and the South Pacific. Starship is a part of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and is the only comprehensive children’s hospital in New Zealand serving a population of approximately 1 million children.

About you

As the ideal candidate for this role you will:

  • be a registered nurse with an ED background (preferably paediatrics) and will either have or be eligible for registration with NZ Nursing Council
  • Or have extensive paediatric nursing experience and looking to enter the Emergency specialty
  • have a focus on caring for the wellbeing of tamariki and whānau
  • demonstrate well-developed communication, critical thinking skills and a commitment to family centred care
  • have a positive attitude, an innovative and adaptable approach to practice
