Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in mental health? We - re looking for compassionate and skilled Registered Nurses (RNs) or Enrolled Nurses (ENs) to join our dedicated Inpatient Mental Health team on the beautiful West Coast.

As part of our supportive and collaborative team, you - ll provide safe, effective, and culturally responsive mental health care for clients and their whānau - supporting their journey toward recovery and wellness in a rural setting that allows you to make a real impact.

About the Role

As a Mental Health Nurse within our inpatient team, you - ll work under a primary and associate nursing model, undertaking comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, risk assessments, and delivering evidence-based interventions. You'll be responsible for:

  • Providing client-centred, recovery-oriented care in line with the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992.
  • Conducting psychiatric assessments, developing collaborative wellness and transition plans, and offering brief interventions.
  • Working with clients and their whānau to ensure culturally safe and responsive care.
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Supporting best outcomes for Māori and Pacific peoples, aligned with the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. 

About you

Essential for RN applicants:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse (with mental health scope).
  • Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
  • Commitment to culturally safe and person-centred care.
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate client care within a mental health framework.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Preceptorship or professional supervision experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience with talking therapies or brief interventions.
  • Familiarity with West Coast mental health services and community supports.
  • Cultural competency training or willingness to undertake it.
  • Working towards a Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) portfolio. 

Essential for EN applicants:

  • Current Enrolled Nurse registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
  • Recent mental health experience or strong interest in the field.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with talking therapies or brief interventions.
  • Familiarity with West Coast mental health services and community supports.
  • Cultural competency training or willingness to undertake it.
  • Working towards a Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) portfolio.
