Location:  Kenepuru and Wellington Regional Hospital 

Contract: Permanent, 1.0 FTE

About the Role 

As a Registered or Enrolled Nurse (RN/EN) with us, you - ll play a vital role in delivering safe, effective, and contemporary nursing care that meets the holistic needs of individuals and their whānau. Your practice will be guided by comprehensive assessment, ensuring continuity of care that is person- and whānau-centred, culturally responsive, and evidence-based.

This role offers the opportunity to work across a range of specialised services, primarily specialising in Ophthalmology in Kenepuru, but will work in Dermatology, Surgical, ENT and Vascular clinics, providing you with a diverse and rewarding clinical experience. You'll contribute to multidisciplinary care in the outpatient setting, supporting patients through various stages of their health journey.

About the Team/Service/ Location 

The Outpatients team comprises Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, and Health Care Assistants. We are a multicultural team working in an inclusive and supportive environment. While we collaborate closely as a team, our roles also involve a high level of autonomy, as we coordinate and manage our own clinics. We serve as a crucial link in the patient journey, from their initial referral from the community to their eventual discharge back into it.

This role is based primarily at Kenepuru Hospital, with the possibility of working at Wellington Regional Hospital as service needs arise.

Key Skills Developed in the Outpatients Area:

  • Advanced wound assessment and dressing techniques
  • Assisting with biopsies
  • Independently preparing for and running Specialist Medical Officer (SMO) clinics
  • Coordinating patient care to maximize the effectiveness of clinic appointments
  • Effective collaboration and communication with administration teams, District Nurses (DNs), and other hospitals
  • Advocacy for vulnerable and underrepresented populations
  • Professional development and opportunities to run nurse led clinics.

About you 

As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate core nursing competencies, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and sound administrative abilities. You will be able to thrive in a dynamic environment, advocating and providing patient education, confident in managing aseptic technique, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and capable of running Specialist clinics to a consistently high standard. A key expectation of the role is the ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with nursing colleagues, consultants, and the reception and administrative teams.
