Contract: Permanent, Part Time 0.8 FTE Rostered and Rotating

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Paediatric Surgical Ward. This role offers an exciting opportunity to expand your paediatric nursing expertise and clinical skills while providing exceptional care to children of all ages.

As a successful candidate, you will have proven experience working with paediatric patients, demonstrating the ability to work both as part of a team and independently. You will manage your own workload, adapting quickly to changing demands and delivering professional and compassionate family-centred care.

This is a permanent position, working 0.8 FTE (64 hours/fortnight). Our 8 hour shifts are rostered and rotating, including weekends and nights.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Child Health Service for the Wellington Region and Central New Zealand is a tertiary center providing specialised medical and surgical care for children up to 16 years old. It offers a mix of inpatient, outpatient, day patient, and domiciliary services. Within Te Wao Nui, the inpatient wards Piko and Kowhai provide dedicated care for hospitalised children.

Kōwhai Ward (Surgical) has 17 inpatient beds and a 12-bed Children - s Day Stay (CDS), which caters for children requiring short-term care post day procedures and surgery.

About you 

  • Proven knowledge and skill base in paediatric nursing
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment that values teamwork
  • Willingness to learn and develop. Comprehensive orientation and training provided

Skills and experience

  • Minimum 12 months nursing experience. Previous paediatric nursing experience essential
  • A current Annual Practising Certificate
  • Completed CAP/NETP Programme 
  • Overseas applicants should first establish their eligibility for registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and further information is available on nursingcouncil.org.nz
  • Hold a current work visa or have the legal right to work in New Zealand
