About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and capable Registered Nurse to join our dedicated Mental Health for Older People team at Tauranga Hospital. This 10-bed inpatient unit provides short-term assessment, care, and treatment for tangata whai ora with complex mental health presentations such as dementia, psychological conditions, and palliative needs.
In this rewarding role, you will support tangata whai ora and their whānau through deeply personal journeys – applying a mix of physical, mental health, and communications skills. You will have access to learning and development opportunities including in-class education, e-learning, and postgraduate study specific to Older Persons Mental Health.
This is a fixed-term, part-time role working 32 hours a week, through to October 2026, covering parental leave. Shifts are rostered across a 24-hour schedule.

Our inpatient unit is part of the Mental Health and Addiction Services based at Tauranga Hospital – one of the fastest-growing regions in New Zealand. About you
To be successful in the role, we seek a Registered Nurse who brings empathy, critical thinking, and a calm presence to your work. You communicate effectively with colleagues and whānau, and you are committed to delivering person-centred care to older people with diverse and complex needs.
What you will bring:
- Current New Zealand Nursing Council registration and Annual Practicing Certificate
- Mental Health experience and scope of practice (no restrictions)
- Preferably 2+ years' post-registration experience, ideally in Older Adult Mental Health or related areas
- Ability to work rostered shifts (24/7 coverage)
- A flexible, compassionate, and team-based approach
