About the Role

The Oncology Outpatient service based at Waikato Hospital is seeking an experienced nurse who has a desire and passion to work within this area. You will be required to rotate internally between chemotherapy day stay and oncology clinic.

About the Service

Te Whatu Ora – Waikato’s chemotherapy day stay is a busy 25 chair outpatient clinic catering for oncology and haematology outpatients requiring a variety of clinical procedures including chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, and various diagnostic and palliative procedures.

The oncology clinic area involves co-ordination of nursing care for all patients attending outpatient clinics for concurrent treatment (receiving both radiotherapy and chemotherapy) and also for patients on both short- and long-term follow up. There is a strong focus on patient education and advocacy within both areas.


About you

Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:

  • Oncology and Haematology experience is preferred
  • Radiation knowledge and management of wounds
  • Chemotherapy and CVAD certification preferred but not essential (full training will be given)
  • Willingness to accept and develop an extended role within the job
  • The ability to work within a team in a demanding environment
  • A flexible and positive attitude
  • A current Annual Practicing Certificate and a New Zealand work permit
