The opportunity:

We have an opportunity available for a motivated pharmacist, with or without clinical experience to join our dynamic and ambitious Clinical Pharmacy Service based at Middlemore Hospital. 

With a talented team of around 50 clinical pharmacists, we provide clinical pharmacy services to inpatient areas spanning across Medicine, Surgery (including National Burns Centre & Spinal Unit), Older People’s Health & Rehabilitation, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Women’s & Children’s Health, Mental Health, Infectious Diseases & Antimicrobial Stewardship, Palliative Care, Complex Pain, Refugee Health and Medicines Information. 

Main responsibilities for clinical pharmacists include:

  • Providing clinical pharmacy services to our inpatients, including medicines reconciliation, medication review and optimisation, discharge facilitation, patient counselling and attending ward rounds/MDTs
  • Promoting evidence-based medicine and patient-centred care
  • Contributing towards quality improvement and medication safety initiatives
  • Continuing to grow your clinical expertise and contributing to education and training of your colleagues and other professions
  • Supporting other aspects of the pharmacy service such as inpatient dispensary and on-call service

We are looking for a pharmacist who is:

  • Eligible to work in New Zealand
  • New Zealand Registered Pharmacist with current APC or eligibility to obtain one
  • Able to work flexible hours (such as participating in our extended service hours, on-call and weekend rosters) 
  • Previous clinical experience in hospital pharmacy preferred but not essential
  • Patient-focused, enthusiastic and driven
  • Excellent communicator with sound problem-solving skills
  • Curious, reflective and motivated in continuous improvement and lifelong learning
