The Role:
Health New Zealand Counties Manukau is seeking a passionate and dynamic Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) Lead Educator to join our People and Professional Development team. This pivotal role is essential in protecting our workforce and improving the care experience for our patients through expert education in safe handling practices.
Key Responsibilities:
As the SPHM Lead Educator, you will:
- Coordinate, develop, and deliver SPHM education programmes across the organisation including new staff orientation, patient-specific techniques, and area-specific applications.
- Provide clinical and professional leadership in safe patient handling and mobility to ensure staff competence and confidence.
- Develop training content, including contributing to the creation of e-learning modules and the implementation of new equipment.
- Lead and expand the educator network through a "train-the-trainer" model to enable wide-scale training delivery.
- Liaise with local, regional, and national SPHM networks to ensure CM Health remains at the forefront of best practice.
- Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement by integrating feedback and outcome data into education strategy.
About You:
- NZ Registered health professional with a current Annual Practicing Certificate with the appropriate board (nursing or allied health professional)
- Minimum 3+ years relevant clinical experience in NZ
- Moving and Handling experience essential. Experience as a M&H educator is an advantage
- Proven experience in delivering training and leading practice change initiatives
Preferred Attributes:
- Specific qualifications in Moving & Handling.
- Experience in professional development, coaching, or staff education.
- A collaborative and confident communicator with leadership presence.
- Strong commitment to cultural safety and diversity.
- Membership in relevant professional organisations such as MHANZ (Moving and Handling Association of New Zealand).
