Mō te tūnga | About the role

Defence Shared Services Group (DSSG) is responsible for the effective provision and efficient delivery of shared services activities to the whole of NZDF.

You will be travelling around the greater Auckland region and across New Zealand to safely distribute classified items for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).

This is a unique role which works closely with the Defence Safehand Team, other government departments, NZDF camps and bases to provide best practice in the movement of classified items across an organisation.

Your duties will include:

  • Providing efficient, consistent and standardised service delivery of Safehand items.
  • Travelling between departments, buildings, camps, bases and other Government agencies for successful deliveries.
  • Following security procedures when handling classified items.
  • Compiling with statutory and NZDF policies, as well as health and safety work practices.

As this is a casual role, you must be available to work on an ‘on call' basis. There will be occasional after hours work with domestic travel required. Before you are able to start this role in full capacity, you must be able to obtain Top Secret security clearance (this can take a few months to get).

This role is based out of RNZAF Base Auckland, Whenuapai. It is advised to apply early to avoid disappointment, as this role may close ahead of time due to a high volume of applicants.

You will need prior experience working in secure environments, with an understanding of document classification and associated policies. You'll be a natural communicator, have strong relationship building skills and have the ability to interact with a wide range of people, including military and civilian personnel. 

Ideally, you will need:

  • The ability to be discreet, display sound judgement and have a good awareness of your surroundings at all times.
  • Good time management skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • To be a competent and experienced driver (manual and automatic), holding a current class 1 NZ drivers licence and NZ Passport.
  • To be physically able to lift and move cartons/bags weighing up to 23kg each.
  • To have a good sense of humour.

To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with the NZ Defence Force, you need to meet certain citizenship and residency criteria. Here's what you need to know:

Higher Level Security Clearance

  • You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
  • At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last ten (10) years.
  • You must have a ten (10) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
