Job Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Underwater Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (UISR) team provides specialist advice inside the NZDF related to underwater sensor performance. We conduct original research into compact acoustic array design, source detection, classification and tracking techniques, build tools for analysis of underwater acoustic and magnetic signals, and support in-service signature measurement systems.

A typical day in this role will see you assisting the team in our compact acoustic array project by computer simulation and in-water testing, investigating new techniques for source identification and classification, and providing technical support to in-service capabilities. You will contribute to our ongoing efforts to develop and maintain tools for underwater signature analysis including navigation and sensor data fusion algorithms, electromagnetic signature models, instrumentation development, data analysis workflows and report generation. Some of this work will require production of technical reports and there may be opportunity to publish in open-source literature.

You will get the opportunity to work with industry and partner organizations in data collection, processing, analysis, algorithm and software development. Infrequently, you may be required to participate in experiments at sea, onboard commercial workboats or Navy vessels. You will also be required to provide direct specialist support to NZDF uniformed personnel in areas in which you have expertise.

The role will require the ability to travel both internationally (valid passport needed) and domestically. You will also need a full driver's licence and be able to work in remote and challenging environments with military personnel in the air, land and maritime domains.

The remuneration offered will be dependent on skills and experience.

Applications may be reviewed upon receipt. It is advised to apply early to avoid disappointment, as this role may close ahead of time due to a high volume of applicants.
