About the Role

The Cyber Security Operations Centre Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing secure cloud and network solutions that effectively reduce cyber risk across the organisation. Working within the National Security Operations Centre (NSOC), this role provides expert engineering guidance, ensures alignment with compliance requirements, and contributes to the deployment of advanced security architectures. The work delivered by this role plays a vital part in strengthening the overall security posture of Health New Zealand.

About the Team/Service/ Location

As part of the National Cyber Security function, Cyber Security Operations Engineers within the National Security Operations Centre (NSOC) play a critical role in enhancing and protecting Health New Zealand's digital environment. They are responsible for identifying automation opportunities, streamlining processes, and improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the NSOC operations. Their expertise is essential in safeguarding Health New Zealand's systems, data, and digital assets against growing cyber threats.

About you

As an experienced Security Operations Engineer, you will bring strong analytical and technical skills, and posses great communication skills that will enable to you communicate with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be comfortable working in complex and dynamic environments, and be proactive in contributing to the continuous improvement of security operations. You will also have the following skills and experiences that will help you to succeed in the role:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Cloud Security Infrastructure, cyber security, anomaly detection, Security Operations Centre (SOC) detection and response, threat analytics, security incident and event management (SIEM).  
  • Experience with the creation of analytics and/or automation.
  • Experience with data ingestion/transformation.
  • Experience with implementing and automating via Infrastructure as Code.
