Mō te Tūranga | About The Role 

We have an opportunity for a Senior Adviser, Media Relations to join our External Relations and Communications team. The primary responsibilities include delivering the press office and PR functions. 

This includes: 

  • Being a key point of contact for all media enquiries 
  • Writing and preparing media releases, feature articles, and broad range of media content 
  • Managing media engagement for all our reporting and publications 
  • Engaging with the media on a range of business topics and regulatory issues 
  • Establishing and nurturing relationships and networks with relevant stakeholders 

We have offices Auckland and Wellington - this role can be based in either location.  

 

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?   

Your role will play a key part in protecting and promoting the FMA's reputation with the media and other stakeholders.  You'll also become a trusted adviser to the business particularly to our senior leaders. We think that is pretty exciting. 

 

What attributes will I have to be successful? 

We're looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual who is keen to play a key role in a creative and outcomes-focused external communications team. 

Key to your success in this role will be your solid communications background and knowledge of the media landscape. Whether your experience was gained in-house, in agency or as a journalist, you'll bring solid writing experience (including an ability to translate into Plain English), relationship building skills, a thirst for knowledge and capacity to learn. 

You'll be sharing the FMA's regulatory story with a wide audience across a variety of channels, with an opportunity to work with other national agencies that also influence business and the economy.

What is the team culture and environment like?  

This role joins a team of five that work across two locations. The team is passionate and motivated to bring to life the communications strategy and share with New Zealand the role of the FMA. You would be joining a group of strong communications experts with a focus on continuous improvement who are always looking to lift the bar and generate new ideas.
