About the Role
We have an opportunity available within our project team that sits in Major Projects within Protection Directorate of the National Public Health Service (NPHS). This role will assist with the development of the Aotearoa Public Health Operations System (APHOS). We are looking for people with a good understanding of the operational delivery of:
- Environmental & Boarder Health, Compliance, and/or
- Health Promotion
The Protection and Promotion Subject Mater Expert (Senior Advisor) role is a fixed term / secondment opportunity until June 2027, and we are negotiable on FTE (part time or full time will be considered).
This role is responsible for providing the project team with grounded knowledge of public health business operations. You will also collaborate with the team to build and use your existing networks and connections to facilitate expert opinions from across the NPHS. Collectively this will inject the project team with the business perspectives that will enable us to build better tools, faster and exceed expectations. You will be advising, connecting, doing, and learning.
We are offering the opportunity to expand on your public health skills with exposure to many aspects of technology project development including project management, business analysis, change management, training, agile development, testing, workshopping, and service design.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The NPHS within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
You'll be an adaptive, pragmatic and action focused individual. You will bring personal expertise and the networks of experts that fill in the gaps. You will demonstrate a keenness to learn about the technology world and its application to the public health business. You'll bring a deep commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, ensuring equitable outcomes and culturally responsive practices in all areas of your work.
You will have:
- A relevant graduate qualification or equivalent experience (e.g., Public Health, Epidemiology, Informatics)
- A deep knowledge of and experience of Health Protection and/or Promotion work from an operational perspective, with current or recent experience of the New Zealand context
- A strong network of peers across the NPHS and know who the ‘go to' people are to get expert advice across a range of protection/promotion subject areas
- A strong interest in developing information management systems/technical knowledge
- An understands how to work as part of a wider, multi-workstream project team
- Proven ability to communicate effectively within your discipline and across disciplines
- Exceptional skills in collaboration, problem solving and delivery
