Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

We are looking for a talented Senior Advisor to join our Head of the Finance Profession team. This is a one-year fixed term role.

This small, dynamic team works collaboratively with government finance professionals, Treasury teams, functional leads, and sector leaders to uplift finance function performance within and across agencies.

Your role will focus on building capability in strategic financial management practice outside of the finance profession. You'll lead and deliver programmes that:

  • Build the financial management capability of public service leaders.
  • Design a programme of courses and other interventions designed to improve individual and collective financial management skills.
  • Support the delivery of this programme to strengthen financial capability system-wide.

Working closely with senior finance leaders, you'll take a leadership role in driving initiatives, including coordinating vital development programmes for public service leaders and the wider finance profession.

Ō pūmanawa | About You

We are seeking someone who is motivated to lift the quality of financial management in the public sector and has a solid understanding of government systems and processes, including the public financial management system.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of strategic financial management and bring the following:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience in designing and delivering training or development courses, ideally related to strategic financial management.
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills, with a focus on delivering results.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills—capable of presenting complex ideas with clarity and influence.
  • Sound judgement, personal integrity, and an ethical approach.
  • The ability to obtain an appropriate security clearance.
