The Regulatory Operations Group (Reg Ops) delivers Maritime NZ's front line regulatory functions. Regulatory Operations purpose is to improve maritime safety and security and the protection and preservation of our marine environment.

The Regulatory Operations Planning and Performance team plays a critical role in ensuring that the Regulatory Operations Group is supported in the management of its business operations and business resilience.  They support the Regulatory Operations Group as a whole, and link closely with other teams across Maritime NZ to ensure that Regulatory Operations work is aligned with our organisation's strategy. 

Te tūnga | The role

As the Senior Advisor Operations Planning and Performance, you will be responsible for leading and supporting the Regulatory Operations Group with planning, monitoring and reporting of front-line regulatory activities to enable effective leadership oversight and accountability. 

A key aspect of the Senior Advisor role will see you take the lead in supporting the planning, monitoring and operations of the Regulatory Licensing Review Panel (Panel).

The Panel is made up of senior leaders and experienced Maritime NZ staff who apply a risk-based approach focused on preventing harm. The Panel reviews specific disputed decisions and complex active applications when it can be demonstrated that an alternative interpretation or application of a rule, regulation or convention may lead to a different decision, without compromising safety. 

You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams across Maritime NZ to ensure quality reporting is developed, planned, monitored and reported on effectively.

  • Experience and knowledge of performance, planning and reporting in a regulatory context
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to problem-solve in complex environments, with experience of using these to create insights that drive process improvement
  • Experience adapting working and communication style appropriately for different audiences and channels;
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to provide support and subject matter leadership to peers and staff
  • Experience contributing to projects and programmes of work involving multiple objectives and diverse stakeholders in a fast changing environment.
  • Aptitude for fostering positive working relationships with people across all levels of an organisation; collaborative working style with a strong user focus
  • Successful track record as someone who is willing to involve others to look at problems from different perspectives and develop fresh solutions

The appointing range for this roles is $114,961 - $140,246.
