About Justice, Security and Government Services

Our Justice, Security and Government Services team is one of the functions of the Budget and Public Services group at the Treasury. 

Our work provides exposure to a wide range of policy issues and the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of government and how government expenditure delivers value for New Zealanders. Through its advice to the Minister of Finance and other Ministers, and its work with other agencies, our team shapes and influences policy spanning the justice, defence, intelligence, government administration, and cultural sectors, as well as advising on Treaty of Waitangi settlements.

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

We have an opportunity for a Senior Analyst to join our Justice, Security and Government Services team.

The role is Wellington based and provides opportunities for an ambitious Senior Analyst to:

  • Advise on Government defence and security policy, investment and funding decisions, including providing input to the Budget process
  • Lead relationships, on behalf of the Treasury, with relevant government agencies
  • Develop your leadership skills by providing guidance to junior staff, shaping priorities and driving key areas of work, and
  • Be part of a diverse, collaborative, supportive and high performing team.

Ō pūmanawa | About You

We are seeking a well-rounded and high performing candidate who is keen to further their development and broaden their analytical experience. You will also bring:

  • An ability to apply strong analytical, critical and strategic thinking skills to draw together diverse perspectives to get traction on ambiguous and/or complex issues leading to the provision of practical advice
  • Experience in public policy and/or financial analysis and a demonstrated ability to have impact
  • An ability to engage constructively with other organisations, build strong relationships and influence policy thinking
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with experience conveying complex information clearly and succinctly to a range of audiences, including Ministers and chief executives
  • Motivation to grow and develop your skills to contribute to the organisation's overall outcomes
  • Leadership capability, including the ability to work effectively across the organisation and to support more junior members of the team.

The successful candidate will need to either hold or be able to obtain a national security clearance.
