About the Role

In this role of Senior Analyst, you will be able to contribute to transforming the future of health by working with the extraction, collation and distribution of data, insights, and information (primarily using national data sets) across Health New Zealand.

You will be responsible for using best practice methodologies to provide consistent and high-quality analytics, advice, oversight, and direction to the Service Performance work programme. You will assist with the development and delivery of a reporting, monitoring and analysis programme focused on system flow, planned or unplanned care and improving performance within the Hospital and Specialist Services directorate, and the wider organisation. You will also be involved with the production of responses to OIAs, parliamentary questions, media enquiries and other information requests in relation to your area of responsibility.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our Health Service Performance team sits within the Planning, Funding and Outcomes space and plays a critical role in Health New Zealand by providing health analytics and insights which support the planning and delivery of better, more equitable health services.

About you

With a background in data and analytics, you will have been responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based, forward-focused insights using best practice approaches and methods. You will be committed to developing your analytical skills and working within a broader team to produce, present and interpret data sets that support decision-makers.

You will have working knowledge of national collections health data, and understand the ever-changing nature of operational data sets. Ideally, you will have strong experience in presenting data, data extraction, data transformation, measures design and development and business intelligence tools such as SQL, Qlik Sense, or Snowflake. Additionally, reasonable experience with Power BI or R would be beneficial.

You will have:

  • A relevant graduate qualification, or equivalent professional experience
  • Knowledge of health service datasets, especially national collections
  • Advanced analytical capabilities
  • Significant experience in data extraction and reporting
  • Demonstrated skills and experience with analytical software tools
