Job Title: Senior Analyst Sector Insights

Role Type: Permanent Full-Time

Location: Rotorua or Wellington

Salary Band D: $98,955 – $127,260 depending on skills and experience

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

The Senior Analyst Sector Insights leads the provision of data, analysis, and reporting about the New Zealand forestry and wood processing sector. The successful candidate could expect to produce analysis and insights across the entirety of the supply chain, as well as topics that support delivery of government objectives. As part of the provision of these services, the Senior Analyst will support the identification of business needs and the development of new data, analytical tools and services.

The key deliverables for this role will include:

  • Leading the investigation and analysis of how data is (or could be) used to support business activities
  • Leading complex statistical analysis, modelling, and presentation of data to answer business questions and sector needs
  • Coaching team members, supporting the development of their statistical and coding (R, Python, SQL) skills
  • Ensuring data is available for easy consumption for dashboard reporting, performance reporting, and programme data management
  • Ensuring the integrity and quality of data is fit for purpose

About You – Mōu

To be successful in this role, you will have extensive experience analysing, interpreting, and reporting on complex data sets as well as strong exposure to various data analytics and data management tools and concepts. You will be highly confident using statistical programming languages like R and/or Python and dashboarding tools like Power BI. A high level of comfort with SQL code would also be useful.

You will be highly confident and skilled in gathering, organising, analysing, and communicating data, and have the logical ability to quickly understand problems and identify a range of effective solutions.

Importantly, you will have excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively prioritise work and a high degree of initiative.

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū

The data and insights team supports decision makers by building a view of the forestry and wood processing supply chain. We are a ‘tiny, but mighty' team who specialise in doing a lot with a little. We have an ambitious work programme and there is plenty of space for innovative and out-of-the-box thinking to build efficiencies and deliver on our commitments to stakeholders.

The team is a mix of technical specialists and subject matter experts who contribute to a range of functions. This role aims to fill a gap in our technical lineup.
