Senior Business Adviser
Role type: Fixed-term July 2025 to June 2026, full-time
Location: Wellington
Salary Range: General Salary Range D: $98,955 to $115,691 depending on skills and experience
About the Role - Kōrero mō te tūranga
The Senior Business Adviser is a newly created position within the Regulatory Oversight and Support team of New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS). The purpose of the position is to operationalise, drive and refine the systems for the successful collection, debt management and reporting for cost recovered funding as allowed for under the Food Act 2014.
We are seeking an experienced professional who will be responsible for contributing to a new stream of cost recovered funding, with the focus being on the establishment of efficient, effective and consistent processes. To do this, you will need to build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including businesses, Territorial Authorities and MPI teams through collaboration, influence and positive engagement.
Key responsibilities include:
- the development, implementation and management of the billing, debt management and reconciliation processes for Food Act levies
- managing the monthly and yearly transfer of funds by Territorial Authorities
- collaboration across NZFS teams and with Territorial Authorities to ensure consistent messaging and responses when engaging with operators
- proactively monitoring and identifying emerging queries, issues and trends to anticipate potential problems before they escalate.
We are seeking someone with the confidence and experience to operate at a senior level, developing and documenting processes and taking ownership of the levy management.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- a relevant tertiary qualification in accounting or finance or equivalent experience
- proven experience in finance processes and practices, including experience in credit control and debt management
- the ability to think strategically and innovatively to drive change across the breadth of the organisation
- excellent analytical and reporting skills
- proven relationship management skills, with experience in building credible and effective working relationships with senior leaders, technical specialists, and peers
- excellent listening, written and communication skills, focusing on what the audience needs to know and supporting decision making.
