The opportunity:

We have a senior position available for a motivated and experienced clinical pharmacist to join our dynamic and ambitious Clinical Pharmacy Service based at Middlemore Hospital. 

With a talented team of almost 50 clinical pharmacists, we provide clinical pharmacy services to inpatient areas spanning across Medicine, Surgery (including National Burns Centre & Spinal Unit), Older People’s Health & Rehabilitation, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Women’s & Children’s Health, Mental Health, Infectious Diseases & Antimicrobial Stewardship, Palliative Care, Complex Pain, Refugee Health and Medicines Information.

Within our local Pharmacy Career Framework, the Senior Clinical Pharmacists typically have 3 or more years of clinical experience in the hospital setting. The role is rotational in nature and is designed to provide valuable opportunities for experienced clinical pharmacists to further broaden and deepen their knowledge and skills in both general and subspecialty areas, with the mentorship from more senior/specialist pharmacists. There are also opportunities to grow in other important aspects such as leadership, people development, quality improvement and research. Senior Clinical Pharmacists also support the pharmacy leadership team while we strive to optimise service delivery and achieve the goals of our service and the organisation.

We are looking for a pharmacist who is:
  • New Zealand Registered Pharmacist with current APC or eligibility to obtain one
  • Minimum of 3, preferably 5 or more years of clinical experience in the hospital setting, with previous rotations in core clinical areas, including Medicine, Surgery and Older People’s Health
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications desirable– e.g. Postgraduate Cert/Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Able to work flexible hours (such as participating in our extended service hours, on-call and weekend rosters) 
  • Patient-focused, enthusiastic and able to lead self and others
  • An excellent communicator with sound problem-solving skills
  • Curious, reflective and motivated in continuous improvement and lifelong learning
  • Supportive team player and able to teach and train other pharmacy staff and students
  • Keen interest and/or experience in quality improvement and service development
