About the Role

We have the opportunity available to join the National Public Health Service (NPHS) Prevention Directorate as a Senior Communications Advisor. This is a fixed term, full-time role.

The primary purpose of the role is to be a key leader in the development and delivery of high-quality communications materials for BreastScreen Aotearoa. Working as part of an agile team, this role also contributes to a range of priority communication activities including planning, writing, editing and reviewing content across a range of channels.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The NPHS within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

About you

You are a Senior Comms Advisor who will bring experience in leading teams. You have proven experience in technical and analytical leadership on complex communications issues, and leading communications initiatives within their area of expertise. You are a person who is open to new ideas and create a culture where individuals at all levels bring their ideas on how to ‘do it better' to the table.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in a related area (PR, communications, journalism, marketing or relevant workforce experience.)
  • Experience working for the New Zealand Public Service (within health is preferential)
  • Excellent written communications skills including editorial and experience
  • Knowledge and expertise of communication planning principles and media engagement theory and practice.
  • Significant experience in public service communications
  • Ability to identify future trends to create sound strategies and operationalise plans
  • Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
