The purpose of the Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) is to promote and protect health and disability services consumers' rights and to facilitate the fair and efficient resolution of complaints relating to infringement of those rights.

As New Zealand's health watchdog, the Commissioner is involved in a wide spectrum of health concerns to ensure accountability in the healthcare system and promote high standards of care.

 Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the HDC Complaints Assessment Team (CAT) as a Senior Complaints Assessor. The core work of CAT is analysing and managing complaints through to resolution.

A Senior Complaints Assessor is a senior member of the team who progresses complex complaint files and drafts sound, high-quality correspondence. Senior Complaints Assessors also engage with key stakeholders and members of the public to provide information and foster understanding of the Commissioner's role and assist Team Leaders in mentoring and growing the skills of junior members of the team.

  • Excellent writing skills
  • The ability to communicate with people from a wide cross-section of the community
  • Experience of mentoring and/or coaching others
  • Experience of reviewing work and providing constructive feedback
  • A calm and professional approach with a sensitive manner
  • Resilience to difficult subject matters
  • Proven ability to identify and solve problems
  • Enthusiasm for, and a genuine interest in, the health and disability sector
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, with law, health, or disability an advantage
  • At least four years' (Senior Complaints Assessor) relevant work experience, preferably more 

Awhe utu - Salary range

As part of our remuneration framework the base salary range for the position is from $69,125 to $86,406. Note: KiwiSaver / employer contribution is in additional to your base salary. We offer a range of benefits including:
