About the Role
As a Senior Health Promotion Advisor | Kaitohu Matua Whakatairanga, you will be experienced in health promotion and able to provide professional leadership and mentoring to support the local Community and Whānau Wellbeing Team. You will support Health Promotion Advisors to design, develop, enable and evaluate health promotion projects, strategies, policies, interventions and initiatives that address the determinants of health and wellbeing which are aligned with community and government priorities. Alongside this, you will lead the delivery of your own work programme that contribute to meaningful and sustainable change for whānau and communities.
With a focus on achieving equity, you will work closely with local government, iwi and hapū, and priority communities to bring about positive change on a wide range of issues including Immunisation, Screening, Smokefree/ Vapefree, Food Environments, Physical Activity, Alcohol and Mental Wellbeing. You have a willingness to build constructive and effective relationships with stakeholders, understanding their needs and environment.
The Senior Advisor helps to build local Health Promotion capability and is complementary to the people and performance responsibilities of the Community and Whānau Wellbeing Team Leader and regional health promotion leadership roles. This role ensures the implementation of Te Tiriti principles to advance Pae Ora, fosters innovation, supports continuous quality improvement and cultivates a culture of professional growth.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
This role is based within the Community and Whānau Wellbeing team which aims to enhance the health and wellbeing of the whole community by creating supportive environments which help make healthy choices more available to whānau. You'll be dedicated to seeing communities thrive and will partner with them to deliver initiatives that realise Pae Ora.
About you
As a Senior Health Promotion Advisor, you hold the necessary experience and relevant qualifications in health promotion, you are someone with excellent relationship management, influencing and facilitation skills. You can work in an evidence-based way, integrating health promotion frameworks, health data and community insights to inform priorities and programme development. You have excellent communication skills and be able to adapt information and complex ideas to a wide range of audiences.
- A tertiary qualification in public health, health promotion, social science, education, Māori studies or related fields or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in health promotion, community development or a related role
- Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and innovate alongside communities and wider stakeholders
- Experience in professional leadership and mentoring and supporting the development of quality planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion
- Clean NZ Driver's License
- Willingness to travel across the local district and region
