Mō te tūnga | About the role
The purpose of the Professional Learning and Development team is to strengthen our people capability within Oranga Tamariki with a particular focus on the learning and development of our professional practice workforce. This is achieved by developing leaders and kaimahi (particularly social workers and other practitioners) with the necessary learning and skills underpinned by cultural knowledge and are aligned to the practice approach to ensure they are delivering best practice services, ultimately ensuring better outcomes for rangatahi, tamariki, and whānau.
The purpose of the Senior Learning Designer position is to provide specialist knowledge and experience of adult learning expertise and practice knowledge to the Learning Design team, the wider Capability group and key stakeholders. The Senior Learning Designer is responsible for working with other parts of Oranga Tamariki to translate capability requirements into detailed learning strategies, programmes and plans, and with other members of the design team, determining the products and tools that need to be designed. The position guides and provides quality assurance for the development of learning materials. The Senior Learning Designer leads a team of subject matter experts towards evaluating the efficacy of what has been designed and making changes as part of a continuous improvement approach.
This role acts as a conduit between the Professional Learning and Development group and the Practice team, particularly the Practice Development area, to ensure that the content and design of learning programmes and materials is consistent with practice standards and advice.
Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring
Key requirements of the role include:
- Learning design or instructional design and delivery experience preferably within the public sector
- Strong relationship and engagement skills to ensure learning products are tailored and fit-for-purpose for our frontline workforce
- Prior background or exposure to social work practice is desirable, however being a registered social worker is not essential for this role
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture

Annual remuneration for this position starts between $106,416 and $117,782 dependant on experience.
