About the Role
Whether you are looking for challenging and complex work or a chance to use your employment law skills to support New Zealander's getting the health care they need this is a rare opportunity to practice in-house in employment law within a meaningful environment. We are looking for someone who wants to take charge of complex employment issues and guide managers, senior leaders and HR staff through employment and industrial law issues.
We are looking for someone who wants to operate at the intersection between employment law, operational business needs and our people.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide employment law support across the full spectrum of Employment & Industrial Law issues faced by HNZ. Primarily, this role will support the Central region as the central point of contact for employment law issues arising in the region. There will also be an opportunity to contribute to other work nationally (such as industrial relations, policy and general advisory work).
We have a diverse range of employment law work including contentious matters and advisory work. You could also expect to appear in mediations, prepare statements in reply and potentially appear in the Employment Relations Authority on behalf of Health New Zealand.
About you
- Previous experience (in the range of 7+ years PQE preferably in a similar complex environment) in providing employment law advice and representation to clients in roles applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options, provide advice, and translate this into meaningful advice and solutions.
- Experience providing representation to clients in mediation, the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court.
- Critical thinking, sound judgement and analytical skills which can be constructively applied to a wide range of employment-related legal topics balancing business needs to translate legal advice into actionable solutions.
- The ability to operate strategically while advising on individual cases
- You will hold a current practicing certificate (or have the ability to gain one) with the New Zealand Law Society.
