About the Role
As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you will lead, manage, and delegate the payroll process while delivering a high-quality payroll service to employees. Working within the payroll team, you will ensure payroll and reconciliation processes are completed in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner. A key part of this role is proactively troubleshooting issues, implementing necessary changes, and actioning audit checks to maintain compliance and efficiency.
In a fast-paced team environment, you will share your expertise, support colleagues, and ensure all payroll processes are fully documented and audited at all times. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can work autonomously while contributing to continuous improvement in payroll operations.
About the Team/Service/ Location
This role is part of the Payroll Services team within the People & Capability function at Health New Zealand, based at Tohoro House, Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Te Tai Tokerau. As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you will report to the Payroll Manager, Payroll Team Lead, and Payroll Services, working alongside a highly efficient and focused team. This is a great opportunity to contribute your expertise in a collaborative environment while ensuring payroll operations run smoothly and effectively.
About you
You have at least three years of payroll experience and a strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all payroll processes. You can work independently, effectively prioritise weekly pay runs, and respond promptly to employee payroll inquiries. Your ability to problem-solve and manage workflows makes you a valuable asset to the team.
- A minimum of 3 years' payroll or RMO / SMO unit experience
- Strong customer services background with emphasis on issue resolution
- A working knowledge of pay-related employment legislation and best practice
- Proven experience in working with complex organisational systems
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Applications i.e. Word, Excel and Outlook
- Knowledge and understanding of Payroll systems
- Knowledge of the Holidays Act (2003) and its requirements and the practical application of these requirements from a payroll and business perspective is preferred
