Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The Department of Pharmacy at Te Toka Tumai, Auckland City Hospital has a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Pharmacist Dispensary role. The Senior Pharmacist Dispensary works in the Medicines Supply & Logistics team and will provide leadership and oversight to the busy inpatient dispensary team at Auckland City Hospital. The key focus will be to provide effective day to day operational management, and professional leadership to ensure the delivery of a safe, accurate, efficient, flexible, and resilient supply of medicines to Te Toka Tumai patients.
The main responsibilities of this key senior role will be:
- Leading, co-ordinating, directing, managing, and rostering the dispensary team in conjunction with the Senior Technician Supply and Logistics
- Oversight of and participation in dispensary services including inpatient screening and dispensing, and checking extemp and aseptic compounding, CDs, compliance packaged and repacked medicines
- Orienting, training, supervising, and supporting staff and students in dispensary processes including being a PACT preceptor
- Producing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures and User Guides, and ensuring staff comply with them
- Investigating errors and near misses, identifying trends and implementing remedial actions
- Accountability for controlled drugs

- B. Pharm. or other recognised pharmacy qualification
- NZ registered pharmacist who holds a current APC with the Pharmacy Council of NZ
- 2+ years dispensary experience as a registered pharmacist
- Applied knowledge of NZ pharmacy legislation and Health & Disability service standard NZS8134.7:210
- Successfully coordinated workflow and led a large, busy dispensary team
- Trained, supervised, and mentored interns, trainee pharmacists and technicians
- Demonstrated positive and productive work relationships with dispensary customers and all levels of staff
- Accurate and efficient, with developed time management and organisational skills
- Intermediate computer skills
