A fixed term until 30 August 2027 for leading data-sourcing and management programme

The role | Te tūnga

Our Commercial Team is imbedded into major programmes and business units with sourcing and contracted delivery. A big part of our commercial work at Stats NZ involves acquiring data and procuring and managing the supporting technology solutions. Our work pace is fast, the work is varied. 

We're looking for a skilled senior procurement/commercial specialist to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role focused on delivering to the Monthly CPI project funded in this year's budget announcement key work through well considered procurement and optimised contract management. We're after someone who values doing things well, works easily with others, and contributes positively to team goals. 

What will the role involve? 

The role is a key member of the Commercial Arrangements team and will represent excellent commercial practice as a member of a cross-business project team.  The role will involve: 

  • Delivering excellent commercial support, especially advice on strategic sourcing and execution of commercial arrangements 
  • Operationalizing legislative provisions for how Stats NZ will work with supplier and NGOs to source data 
  • Provide data supply chain certainty to the project, including recognise and address issues and risks  
  • Partnering with our Data Brokers and Wranglers based in Wellington and Christchurch to implement and optimise arrangements with suppliers 

This is a new project, new role and new team, so the successful candidate may have the opportunity to help shape their work.

No two days will be the same and there will be lots of job variety. We require someone with a strong background in government procurement and contract management who's keen to get stuck in and lead or support pieces of work. Specifically, you will: 

  • Have solid experience with New Zealand Government procurement processes, including contract development, negotiation and ongoing contract management 
  • Be genuinely interested in data and technology 
  • Be comfortable working at both strategic and operational levels  
  • Bring a strong work ethic and an appreciation that writing clear, evidence-based documents is a core part of how we get things done, as well effective, collaborative relationship management 
  • Take ownership of your work and help deliver quality outcomes that align with team priorities 
  • Work well with others, contributing to a supportive team culture
  • Have an understanding of excellent support including, demonstrating good practice & being customer focused.

We are also be interested in hearing from candidates newer in their careers, with less experience, but who are looking to deepen their skills and experience and are willing to put in the time and effort to do this.
